This I am a Hero trailer makes me think that there might finally be a Japanese zombie movie franchise. (If there already is one that I don’t know about please let me know.) I am a Hero is based on the manga of the same name by Kengo Hanazawa. This live-action film adaptation was directed by Shinsuke Sato and stars Yo Oizumi, Kasumi Arimura and Masami Nagasawa. It’s coming to Japanese theaters April 23, 2016! That’s today!
It’s the story of a 35-year-old manga artist assistant called Hideo Suzuki. Japan has been forever changed with a virus that turns people into ZBQ. I don’t know what ZBQ stands for but basically, the ZBQ become homicidal maniacs that can spread the virus through bites. Zombies.
The zombie apocalypse has never been more surreal! A mentally unhinged manga artist witnesses the beginning of a zombie outbreak in Tokyo, and he’s certain of only two things: he’s destined to be the city’s hero, and he possesses something very rare in Japan–an actual firearm!
