The Wish You Here zombie short film took home awards for Best Cinematography (Viv Scanu ACS) and Best Original Score (Andy Scott) at Tropfest Australia 24. It was directed by Carnival’s Benjamin O’Donnell and was only one of two films to win in more that one craft category.
A lonely zombie desperately craves company in a dead and empty world.
Wish You Here is about 7 minutes long and it features Karl, a zombie stumbling around his house after the zombie apocalypse. While Karl does look like the typical zombie with deathly pale skin and strange colored eyes, he is not exactly devoid of emotion. In fact, Karl seems to have some recollection of his past and misses Gemma. He’s able to pick up and spray perfume and he seems to quite like the taste. He is also able to use a computer to send email but he doesn’t quite grasp what is happening.
The skin makeup is excellent but I’m not sure about the green teeth or the color contacts.
Based in Sydney at Carnival Productions, Benjamin O’Donnell is a Senior Producer of commercials and on-screen content with a wealth of experience with the biggest ad agencies across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.
